By Amy CT · September 30, 2009 · 0 Comments · 25 Views

So, the results of our first ever Blog of the Month poll are in! I'm very pleased to announcea voter turn-out (ha ha, sounds official!) of 164 votes - and considering that this month I was kind of "winging it" (making the rules & dates up as I went along...) I think that that is faaaantastic!

So... the moment of truth...

The results are as follows...

In The Bedroom Mirror - 0%(0)

The Life and Times of... - 40%(66)

Sideshow Scrapbook - 18%(30)

Intrinsically Florrie - 41%(68)

So, the winner is...

Intrinsically Florrie

Massive congratulations to the very deserving Florrie Clarke of Intrinsically Florrie! We'll be posting one of Florrie's blog-posts here as soon as it's sensible (we're all a bit busy now with Blog of the Month submissions and what-not beginning tomorrow...), and Florrie will be in the Hall of Fame! Florrie - can you either send us a photo of yourself or your logo and a short bio to the usual address, so that we can put you up there?

She'll also recieve our exclusive Blog of the Month badge - so exclusive, in fact, that it's not yet been made... we're very sorry about that, and will be ammending it as soon as we can!

Don't forget to sign the mailing list in order to get our news letter - pretty soon, we're going to stop posting it here! It seems such a waste of time, right? So, for now, we'll just cover the extra, interesting points, right here...

Personal Style Week?

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 23, 2009 · 0 Comments · 19 Views

Post by Editor, Amy, from Confessions of a Fashion Editor

So, this week, unbeknown to most, is Personal Style Week! It's  week for fashion and style bloggers to thik about their own personal style, rather than the styles of 100 000 other people, who are higher up in the industry than them, and, to be honest, it's blooming awesome!

Basically, all you have to do is thin about who you are, what you wear, and what you'd like to wear, and then represent it visually...

So, this is me!

#personalstyleweek
#personalstyleweek by SaffiyaScarlett featuring Forever21

Admittedly, I don't own most of this stuff (because we don't have Forever21 in the UK (*sobs*) but if we did I swear my whole wardrobe would be from there!), but I own stuff similar to it, or I'd like to.

Link me your personal style weeks?

News letter #2

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 21, 2009 · 0 Comments · 21 Views
Hi, everyone!

Just a couple of quick messages;
Firstly, I just thought that I'd better let you know that the old mailing list went, as they say, "tits up", and so we've got a new providor. You can sign up by filling out the form below;

Powered by Aardvark Mailing List

I'm currently in the process of trying to work out a domain name and sort that out without having to move the website's providor, so things may get a bit mad and sporadic pretty soon!

And, lastly - don't forget to vote for our Blog of the Month at http://ukstylebloggers.onsugar.com/4948104! Not long left now!

That's all for now, and I'm sorry that I've not got any more interesting news for you!

What's Happening... Wales

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 18, 2009 · 1 Comment · 32 Views

Guest Post by Laura - original post by Sideshow Scrapbook
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE IN THE BLOG OF THE MONTH POLL, DOWN TWO POSTS : )

Well with London Fashion week starting in just two days....so exciting, I will be attending the A La Mode catwalk show and some of the pop-up shops over the Friday and Saturday of LFW....of which I will be putting up lot's of posts.....so with all that excitement one can forget about other events that are happening right here in Wales. On the 2nd of October is the The Cardiff Design festival launch, the annual festival is a celebration of design and gives an opportunity for Welsh designers to showcase their talents in the fields of graphics, interior design, advertising and packaging to name a few. Events run through the duration of October and range from the Design Awards to showcases, talks and markets.

The Cribs - Photo taken by Me at SWN 2007

October is also when the SWN festival takes over Cardiff with some of the best music around It's over three days from the 22nd to the 24th of October. I went to this festival in 2007 and it was really good, loads of venues where invovled and it works in the same way as South by South West in the States where bands play in different venues across the city. Bands this year include The Pipettes, Cate le Bon and The Longcut to name a few.

Another two events happening in the area is the Trendsetter party on the 1st of October at The Revolution Vodka Bar in Newport, a club night that celebrates fashion, creativity and paired with some great DJ's should be a good night. There is of coursee as I have mentioned before Bristol Fashion week from 26th Sept-4th Oct at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, which will have a catwalk show running everyday, showcasing the best the High street has to offer with labels such as Reiss, Jigsaw, LK Bennett, Whistles and Hobbs to name a few, there will also be hair advice and makeover styling from SAKS.

News letter #1

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 9, 2009 · 0 Comments · 20 Views

This is the first news letter that I've sent out to the BSB mailing list - join it by entering your email address in the box just to the side.... ;) -->

Hi, everyone!

Well, I think that I should probably explain, first of all, that I've got some new mailing list software on the site (as I guess you've seen, if you've signed up for this)(or... if you registered and *I* signed you up, you might not... woops!)... so I'm going to try to send round sort of semi-regular update messages...

If you don't want them any longer, let me know... and I'll play around with the software to try to work out how the hell to remove you from the mailing list! ;)

So, on to the point...

First off, I'm closing registration for Blog Of The Month (http://ukstylebloggers.onsugar.com/page/96256) THIS SUNDAY - you have until then to register. It'll then go to a vote, and the winner gets a guest blog spot, and a link in the soon-to-be-built Hall of Fame on the site!

Secondly... guest blogs! Thank you so much to the lovely Florrie, whose piece about Luella is giving me a run for my money as a fashion editor! You can read it here (http://ukstylebloggers.onsugar.com/4704635), and register soon if you want the chance to have a guest blog slot (http://ukstylebloggers.onsugar.com/4586603), because once the first Blog Of The Month goes up, I'm probably going to limit guest bloggers to them.

Probably.

Thirdly, press. Miss Fashion Whore (www.missfashionwhore.com) wrote a post about us - and I've put it up in the new Press section (http://ukstylebloggers.onsugar.com/page/101885). If you've posted about BSB, email me a link and a screen shot, and I'll put it up there, too! :)

And... on to the actual point of this message... There was an article today in the Guardian about Teenage Bloggers (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/sep/09/teenage-bloggers)... hands up if you're one...? It was talking about the vast influence that teenage bloggers have in the world at the moment... and so I was wondering who you think that the most influential teenage fashion bloggers/writers are?

Drop me a message, telling me who and why - as well as your name and URL, and I'll try my best to make a post about it!

That's all folks!

Luella Love

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 6, 2009 · 5 Comments · 84 Views

Guest post by Florrie - originally posted on Intrinsically Florrie.

Despite having shown at New York fashion week for several years in the past, Luella Bartley is about as British as a designer gets. She was born in Stratford upon-Avon, lived in London for a while and recently relocated to Cornwall- inspiring her eerie aw08 collection. She studied at London's Central Saint Martins, but did not complete her course when she got into fashion journalism, working for renowned publications such as 'Dazed & Confused' and 'Vogue'. Fashion design came calling later.

Mixing the classically British with a punch of rock'n'roll, Luella style is a winning combination with a loyal fanbase including cool-young-things such as Alexa Chung and Kelly Osbourne. Luella also won the prestigious British Fashion Council award for Designer of the Year in November 2008, and well deserved it was after two previous nominations. Her first collection was entitled 'Daddy I want a pony'; she shows rare wit and has a sense of humour, making her brand accessible to us. Designs are quirky, yet never so 'far-out' as to bewilder us.
It is not just the clothes, though of course they are extremely important, that make the Luella brand so magical. Everything, from the carrier bags to those lovely heart stickers- stuck on the tissue paper round purchases and all over a chair in the shop- is fabulous. She has succeeded in creating a strong, successful brand identity. The shopping experience when visiting the Brook St store in Mayfair is wonderful. The shop has a great atmosphere and is really well presented- just look at those gorgeous little bunnies from the Easter 09 display, they could have hopped straight off the catwalk with their beautiful little headpieces. The staff have just the right balance of being friendly and helpful, but also allowing you to browse at your own pace. The website is also pretty awesome, and unlike many designer label websites has a wide selection of stock from the collection available. Replies to emails are relatively prompt and deliveries come quickly and punctually.

Now for my very favourite collection, not just from Luella, but of all the fashion collections I've ever known of- ss09. Very 'ladies who lunch', and every outfit perfect for taking afternoon tea (Claridges is handily just down the road from the flagship store if you want to show off your purchases), yet also with an edge- a fresh reinvention. These weren't your average ditsy floral print dresses. I always love a nice tweed suit myself, and here they were made young, hip even, with asymmetric lines. The classic pearl set was transformed into beautiful multi layered concoctions, a rainbow of pastel colours. The shoes, also in pastel colours, were divine- ladylike yet fun. Finishing touches were gorgeous bow headpieces with nets and lovely little gloves.

Headband and bow: Luella aw08.

With an extremely talented creative director, divine packaging and the oh so covetable accessories, in my opinion Luella is just a superb brand, bringing out fantastic designs, season after season

Fall '09 Style Resolutions

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 3, 2009 · 0 Comments · 25 Views

Guest Post (sort of) By Editor Amy - originally posted on Confessions of a Fashion Editor.

to do list

Image: College Fashion

Inexplicbly, I have recently started reading College Fashion, and one of their posts yesterday really struck me - Fall 2009 Style Resolutions. This is what it said;

"Most of us are headed back to school this week or next, and of course, the smell of new beginnings is in the air – new classes, new friends, new… wardrobe!

Even though we’re nowhere near January and the start of 2010, back to school is a perfect time to make some new resolutions. All the new fall clothes are just starting to hit the stores and chances are that money from your summer job is burning a hole in your pocket, screaming that wonderful phrase, “Back to school shopping!”

Because it’s the start of a new school year (and a new you), I put together some style resolutions for fall to kick off a great semester for you and your wardrobe."

Now, I wasn't planning on becoming a 'new me' for the new school year, but I do agree that I should probably stop being such a shrinking violet when it coes to dressing... so I thought I'd give it a go...

Fall* '09 Style Resoultions
*Yep, that'd be "Autumn", right?

1. I will not spend every single day in jeans. And Saturdays in smart work trousers do not count.

I own a lot of skirts. But I never wear them, for reasons I have never been able to adequetly explain, I hardly ever wear them... so next time I go shopping, I will invest in some lovely new tights, in an array of colours, so that I can wear skirts instead.

2. I will stop caring what people thinkof how I dress.

I am a Fashion Editor, for God's sake. That is a lisence to dress differently.

3. I will not wear my hair in the same way every day.

It's just lazy.

4. I will invest in decent shampoos and conditioners, in order to tame said hair.

Sorry, did I say "hair"? I meant "frizz". (Post on good hair products for frizzy hair coming soon!)

5. I will not over-do the eyeliner.

That was fine, last year, to show that I'm not the same girl that I used to be. But, people know that now. And it's a look which doesn't work for me.

6. I will buy a decent autumn jacket.

Last autumn, whn it was too warm for coats, but too cold for muh less, I spent the whole time wearing a lovely, cosy hoodie. But it looked rubbish... and there are some very stylish, inexpensive autumn jackets out there... Must go shopping soon!

On which note;

7. I will not shop in a mega-rush.

I have a tendancy to go shopping at high speed, in the belief that I will waste time otherwise, but I only end up wasting money on things that are not really what I need. See: many t-shirts from H&M, jeans which are not that great a fit, and too many pair of sunglasses. Instead, I will dedicate a time-slot to shopping, and save my hard-earned cash for what  need.

So, I was wondering; what are your Style Resolutions? I'm asking readers here to post a link to their Style Resolutions; I'm wondering if we can make a seperate tab of readers' resolutions?

By Amy Claire Thompson · September 2, 2009 · 6 Comments · 60 Views

There are no rules about where you have to be from to participate - however if you are an international blogger, firstly, whoa, it's odd you clicked our link... But welcome! We love you! And, secondly, it would be really great if you could write about British Style... an international eye would be really great!

So, how do you get involved?

If you want to write a guest blog post for us...

  1. Leave me a comment on this blog with your blog URL, and a pitch for your guest blog space here - don't forget to tell me if you're a member, and where you're from!
  2. I'll get back to you if we want your idea!
  3. If we do... then you'll post it on your blog, and give me the link. I'll then post it here, and link back to you...
  4. And everyone's traffic goes up!

Yay!

It's a win-win, if you're up for it!

Leave me a message!
